Presidencia holds Forum on Hospitals - March 2
On
March 2, the first meeting of the Consejo Hospitalario was attended by

They
spoke and gave proposals on how the general hospital of San Miguel de
Allende could offer better services. Such ideas were upgrading the facilities
for laboratories and x-rays at the Urban Center of Health. They also went
over the 2003 report, evaluated the income, and how long the average stay
was for a patient, average number of surgeries per operating room, and
emergency response time among others.
Presidente Municipal Luis Alberto Villarreal Garcia put his full support
behind the hospital, and offered congratulations to all those involved.
Woman's Institute Created - March 2
There
was a press conference today to announce the creation of the Instituto
Municipal de Atención a la Mujer, a woman's group to address needs
of women in San Miguel. Directora del Instituto de la Mujer del Estado
de Guanajuato (Director of the Institute for Women in the State of Guanajuato)
Irene Victoria López and la Regidora Luisa Yassel Navarrete attended
and spoke about the need to elevate the well-being and quality of life
for Guanajuatense woman. The discussion covered strategies to extend its
programs to all cities in the state, especially for creating a climate
for equal opportunities. Their goal is to better co-ordinate the program
between the 46 municipalities in the state.
They chose March 8 for the big launch, so it will coincide with International
Woman’s Day. Then they will begin to institute programs that help
woman participate more in the economic, social, political, scientific,
and cultural aspects of life in Guanajuato. Also on this day in the city
of Guanajuato, there will be several events to help promote the cause
including book presentations, conferences, exhibitions and films.
Inauguration of the Andador Lucas
Balderas - Feb. 25, 2004
State
Governor Juan Carlos Romero Hicks and Mayor Luis Alberto Villarreal inaugurated
the 35 commercial spaces on Andador Lucas Balderas for the merchants who
were at Plaza Cívica and the Rinconada de San Francisco. The governor
expressed great pride in opening these spaces, stating that it will give
a dignified work, solid work, and he hopes to develop more with the government’s
backing. He also noted how the space is a place for the whole family,
and was only completed with the help of everyone involved.
Mayor
Luis Alberto Villarreal was clearly happy this space had become a reality.
He told how the retailers’ came to the city council, and they listened,
lending a hand, and with the work of the retailers the Andador Lucas Balderas
was now open for business. He said it definitely was ambitious project,
and will definitely help with the commerce in San Miguel.
Governor
Hicks also stated this project reflects San Miguel's pride in its artists,
history, and traditions.
He went to say the town is its people, and the people had to work long
and hard, but now they had built the spaces and it would definitely help
strengthen commerce of the city. He even noted how the streets, avenues,
alleys in all of San Miguel seem to have improved lately.
The cost of each commercial permit is 76,695 pesos, and there were 35
permits given.

Juan Antonio Jaramillo Villalobos Named Director of SAPASMA - Feb. 25,
2004
In today’s press conference for SAPASMA(the
city department responsible for water and sewage), Ing. Roberto Ruíz
Ramirez announced the Ing. Juan Antonio Jaramillo Villalobos would be
its Director by unanimous agreement. Though many were considered for the
position, Ing. Jaramillo had the best profile for the position.
Ing. Jaramillo said the SAPAMA plans include making sure there is an adequate
supply of water for the growing population, conservation, and to reorganize.
Another goal is to complete works on a processing plant, the new administrative
building, and to help with water reclamation.
He also talked about colonies, such as Ejido de Tirado, to begin works
that given results. He has thanked for the chance to do more, having been
granted the period after a three-month trail.
